Closing Statement

At the beginning of my A2 course my group and I were told that we would be creating three media product and they were a music video, website and a digipack. The first few months we spent our time researching into codes and conventions of our chosen genre, theorists and their theory, what makes a good and appealing product and how to apply all these things to our products?. Then the planning process, what we would like to include and how we are going to get there. Over all from the beginning to end the process has been very time consuming. This was expected as we were being introduced to a lot of knew things such as learning new media terminology, conventions, software, new programs as well as getting used to operating the mac computers as they are completely different to working on a Microsoft programmed computer. I feel that I have gained a lot from this course this year, my knowledge has widened, my skills have improved, and I have gained a good understanding of the process to create a media product from the first initial ideas. I hope that you enjoy looking all my work that has contributed to creating my three final products and acknowledging my effort, dedication and passion that has gone into my blog.

Final Video

Final Digipak

Final Website

Question 1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

Question 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback ?

I have learnt from my audience feedback that our final products were successful and we met what our target audience would expect from our music video, website and digipack. However also from the response there are things that we could improve to make it better. The first question was did you enjoy watching the music video? We got 100% yes response. From that response this shows that we aimed our video at the right age group and we met the gratification theory as they enjoyed watching our product.
Did the video reflect the style of music? Once again we got 100% yes response from this question, this shows that our researching process was good as me conformed to the generic conventions of R&B/Hip-Hop. I think that synchronising the lyrics with the visual was the main success for the 100%yes response.
Was the music video length correct? 66.67% said yes 33.33% said no. I and my group were aware that this was one of the aspects of our music video that didn’t conform to the conventions of this genre. The song wasn’t very long there for we were unable to produce a 3min plus music video. The response we got form this question was expected. The feedback was that it should have been longer as music videos of this genre are around 3mins plus.
Do you feel the camera work/editing was successful? The response from this question was 100% yes this was pleasing as it shows that our time, effort and patients with the editing and camera work was noticed. The camera and editing part to our music video took a lot of time. When filming we had to get the right angles and rerecord particular parts a number of times as my group or the characters would make a mistake. The editing part is what particularly a lot of time, the software that we used was final cut express. This is a professional software and if used correctly can allow you to produce work to a high standard.

Do the ancillary texts (Digipak & Website) reflect the genre of music?
Yes (Digipak)
16.67%
Yes (Website)
16.67%
Yes (Both)
66.67%

From the response it shows that the majority think yes both the website and digipack do however there is still a percentage who thinks not both of them do. This shows that we need to add more of the conventions to each ancillary text for it to conform to the genre conventions of an R&B/Hip-Hop website and digipack.
How do you rate the standard of graphics in the ancillary texts (Digipak & Website)?
3 Good
41.67%
4 Very Good
58.33%
The results show that the target audience thought that the standards of the graphics were quite high however not high enough for anyone to think it was excellent. A way to try and get the results higher would be to work on developing our skills on wix the programme that the website was created on and Photoshop what that the digipack was created on.

Question number sevens response varied
Yes (I would buy the digipak/view the website)
33.33%
Yes (I would buy the digipak only)
8.33%
Yes (I would view the website only)
50%
No
8.33%
I think that the reason for the majority to go with yes I would only view the website only is because of the target audience we aimed it at, and they wouldn’t want to spend their money on buying a product like this because they can access the music for free and they want to save their money.

Is the connection between the media products evident?
Yes
83.33%
No
16.67%
The relation that the audience spotted between the media products were is what we were trying to achieve and that was the colour scheme, consistent log on each produce, images of the artist on each product and consistent font. This is commonly done throughout any genre as the artists try and build a sense of recognition for the audience.
Which media product do you think is most successful in promoting the artist? The response to this shows that the audience think it was between the website and the music video. I think they went with this because the website allows them to interact and get more information about a number of different things such as new, when Big Quarn’s albums are being released, gallery of the artist etc. the video show an insight of what the artist has been through and you can see emotion from particular shots such as close up, and the audience can feel a connection from this, whereas the digipack doesn’t quite provide all of that emotion and gratification because it is less interactive.
The last question was feedback to help us as a group develop and improve our work further. I would agree with their feedback and if we had any time to act on it I would. Over all I think that our product was successful as our target audience enjoyed our products and we met the generic conventions of the genre.

These are the results that we got back from our questionnaire aimed at our target audience. The questionnaire has given us constructive feedback on what when well and what could further develop/be improved.
